MacBook Neo Price in South Africa

MacBook Neo prices at PC International start at R11 899 incl. VAT for the 256GB model. The 512GB models with Touch ID cost more, and prices can differ slightly between colours. Live prices for every model are shown above.

Three things drive the price of a MacBook Neo:

Storage: 256GB or 512GB. Memory is 8GB on every model.
Touch ID: only the 512GB models have the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.
Colour: prices can vary slightly between Indigo, Blush, Citrus and Silver depending on supply and stock.

Budget for a power adapter too. In South Africa the MacBook Neo ships with a USB-C charge cable, but Apple sells the power adapter separately. The 20W Apple USB-C Power Adapter meets Apple’s 20W minimum.

256GB vs 512GB: Which MacBook Neo Should You Buy?

For most buyers we recommend the 512GB MacBook Neo. You get double the storage plus Touch ID, and neither can be added after purchase.

Choose 256GB if you

keep most files in iCloud, OneDrive or Google Drive
mainly use web apps, email and streaming
want the lowest possible price

Choose 512GB if you

store photos, videos or music on the laptop
install lots of apps or want room to grow over several years
want Touch ID for unlocking, password autofill and Apple Pay

Running short on space later? An external SSD on the USB 3 port is an affordable way to add storage.

MacBook Neo Performance: What the A18 Pro Can Do

The A18 Pro is the same class of chip used in iPhone 16 Pro, and it is quick for everyday work.

Apple says the MacBook Neo is up to 50% faster for everyday tasks, up to 2x faster for photo editing and up to 3x faster for on-device AI than a comparable PC laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. Because it is fanless, it stays completely silent.

Runs smoothly

Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), Google Workspace and Zoom
Browsing, email and streaming
Canva, Photos and light photo editing
Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools
Learning to code and school projects

Not the right tool for

Regular 4K video editing or 3D work: choose a MacBook Pro
Heavy multitasking with many apps open: the 16GB MacBook Air M5 handles it better
PC gaming: see our gaming laptops

MacBook Neo vs MacBook Air M5

The MacBook Air is the step up from the Neo. Here is exactly what the extra money buys.

Feature	MacBook Neo	MacBook Air 13-inch (M5)
Chip	A18 Pro (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU)	M5 (10-core CPU, 8-core GPU)
Memory	8GB	16GB (up to 32GB)

Keyboard	Not backlit; Touch ID on 512GB	Backlit with Touch ID
Ports	2 x USB-C (USB 3 + USB 2), headphone jack	MagSafe 3, 2 x Thunderbolt 4, headphone jack
External displays	One (up to 4K 60Hz)	Up to two
Camera	1080p FaceTime HD	12MP Center Stage
Wireless	Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6	Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6
Battery (video)	Up to 16 hours	Up to 18 hours

Our advice: choose the Neo for light use and tight budgets. Choose the MacBook Air M5 if you multitask heavily, edit photos, need two external displays or a backlit keyboard, or want the laptop to last five years or more.

MacBook Neo vs Windows Laptops

At around R12 000, the MacBook Neo competes directly with mid-range Windows laptops. We sell both, so here is an honest comparison.

Where the MacBook Neo wins

Battery life: up to 16 hours of video streaming, more than many Windows laptops at this price, which helps during power outages.
Silent: no fan at all.
Display: 2408 x 1506 on a 13-inch screen is noticeably sharper than the Full HD (1920 x 1080) panels common on budget Windows laptops.
Build: a solid aluminium body that weighs 1.23 kg.
Apple ecosystem: iPhone Mirroring, AirDrop, Handoff and a shared clipboard with your iPhone.
Speed: Apple rates it up to 50% faster for everyday tasks than a laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 5.

Where a Windows laptop wins

Memory and upgrades: many Windows laptops ship with 16GB, and some let you upgrade memory or storage later.
Ports: USB-A, HDMI and sometimes Ethernet built in, with no adapters needed.
Backlit keyboards and touchscreens: common on mid-range models and 2-in-1 laptops.
Bigger screens: 14-inch to 16-inch options for spreadsheets and multitasking.
Windows-only software: desktop accounting packages such as Sage Pastel, many engineering and CAD tools, and most PC games only run on Windows. Gamers should look at gaming laptops.

MacBook Neo vs Chromebook and iPad

Comparing the Neo with a Chromebook or an iPad? Here is how they differ.

MacBook Neo vs Chromebook

Chromebooks cost less and suit schools that run Google Workspace, but they rely mainly on web and Android apps. The MacBook Neo runs full desktop apps such as Microsoft 365 and Adobe Photoshop, with a much sharper display and better build quality.

MacBook Neo vs iPad

An iPad or iPad Air is great for notes with Apple Pencil, reading and media. Add a keyboard and the cost gets close to the MacBook Neo, which gives you full macOS, a desktop browser, proper file management and a built-in keyboard and trackpad. For typing-heavy school or office work, the Neo is the better tool.

Who Is the MacBook Neo For?

The MacBook Neo is built for everyday computing.

Students

Light, long-lasting and affordable, the Neo handles assignments, research, online classes and streaming. Schools can request quotes for multiple units.

Families and home users

Ideal for browsing, email, photos, video calls and streaming, and it works seamlessly with your iPhone and iPad.

Small businesses and remote workers

Email, Microsoft 365, cloud accounting and video calls run smoothly, with all-day battery for meetings and travel.

First-time Mac users

The Neo is the lowest-cost way to try macOS, with the same apps, security and updates as more expensive Macs.

Who should buy something else?

Video editors, developers and heavy multitaskers should choose the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, which have more memory and faster chips. If you need Windows software, see our laptops.

Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Teams, Zoom and cloud accounting tools such as Xero and Sage Business Cloud Accounting all run on macOS or in the browser
Built-in security, including FileVault disk encryption and Touch ID on 512GB models
Long battery life for meetings and travel

If your team relies on Windows-only desktop software, or needs more memory for heavy multitasking, look at Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkBook, Dell Latitude, HP ProBook or the MacBook Air. We are a BBBEE Level 1 supplier and quote on volume orders: contact our sales team.

MacBook Neo Limitations to Know

Being upfront about what the Neo does not do helps you buy the right laptop.

8GB memory is fixed and cannot be upgraded
Storage cannot be upgraded after purchase
The keyboard is not backlit
Touch ID is only on the 512GB models
One of the two USB-C ports runs at USB 2 speed, and only the USB 3 port drives an external display
Supports one external display only
No MagSafe and no Thunderbolt
No True Tone display and no Force Touch trackpad
The power adapter is sold separately in South Africa

If several of these are deal-breakers, the MacBook Air fixes most of them.

Charging the MacBook Neo

In South Africa the MacBook Neo comes with a USB-C charge cable but no power adapter, so you will need one.

Apple adapters: Apple lists 20W as the minimum. The 20W Apple USB-C Power Adapter and 30W Apple USB-C Power Adapter both work.
Already have a charger? Any USB-C Power Delivery charger rated 20W or more will charge it, including Apple’s 20W iPhone and iPad adapter or a USB-C laptop charger such as the HP 65W GaN USB-C Laptop Charger.
Either port works: both USB-C ports support charging.
Charge and connect a screen at once: a USB-C hub or USB-C to 4K HDMI adapter with Power Delivery on the USB 3 port lets you charge and run a monitor from one port.

Power outages? With up to 16 hours of battery the Neo keeps going, and a UPS or inverter keeps your router and Wi-Fi online too.

MacBook Neo Accessories and Desk Setup

The Neo has two USB-C ports, so a few well-chosen accessories go a long way. Browse all accessories or the picks below.

USB-C hub: add USB-A, HDMI and SD card slots with the Dell 7-in-1 USB-C Travel Hub, the HP USB-C G3 Travel Hub or our other docking stations. Plug it into the USB 3 port for full speed and video.
Monitor: one external display up to 4K at 60Hz. Browse 4K monitors, all monitors or portable monitors. USB-C hub monitors such as the Dell Pro 27 Plus 4K P2725QE reduce cable clutter.
Keyboard and mouse: Logitech keyboards, Logitech mice and keyboard and mouse combos for a proper desk setup. Bluetooth models connect without using a port.
Storage and backups: external SSDs, external drives and flash drives for Time Machine backups and extra space.
Bag or backpack: laptop bags and backpacks that fit a 13-inch laptop.
Audio and calls: headsets and speakers. The 3.5mm jack works with wired headphones.
Power: a 20W Apple USB-C Power Adapter, sold separately in South Africa.
